It all started in the George West room in The Mansion of Saratoga where my amazing husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. We went back to our gorgeous room after eating a delectable 9-course meal prepared by The Mansion’s very own Chef Rick. It was my small surprise for Chris. Each dish was served at our reception. Our stomach engorged with goodies we decided to look at apartments for sale while digesting a mountain-sized meal.
We came across this disheveled apartment, which at first glance didn’t look like much until we honed in on the size and price. We called the realtor right away to schedule an appointment as soon as we got into the city. Our first visit, well…I saw it and said let’s keep looking!
We LOVED the square footage, which is a luxury in New York, but heard an imaginary register ringing after looking at every hole in the wall, crack and water damaged molding. There were so many things to fix all I heard was the ringing and needed liquid magnesium to bring me down from the money pit frenzy in my mind.
My husband turned to me and said, “Baby I can fix this!” I thought, “You are going to have to" after glancing at our checking account on my mobile phone. I remember running up and down the living room reenacting scenes from Fantasia replacing the mops with roll brushes dripping in Roman Pro 838. Wallpapers unraveling and diving onto the walls while pigeons flew in with box cutters in their mouths to customize its fit. We wish!
Our furnishings were purchased after winning several antique furniture auctions in Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Long Island. All the wallpapers were imported from England, all but the guest room. You are more than welcome to ask about anything in the house via email in our contact page. We can go on and on about specifics!
It was truly a labor of love. Chris and I hardly worked on it at the same time. In the morning he would engrave secret love notes in the cemented floors before covering it in tiles. I stopped by every evening and responded to each of his notes on the plaster walls now covered in wallpaper. Each room carries our declarations. It is our first project after coordinating a colossal wedding ceremony. Now that it’s finished we invite you to utilize this space for your next photo shoot, film or intimate dinner.
